Sign Language will be offered as an option to all students during 2nd and 4th quarter for 6, 7, 8 grade During this class, students learn to communicate using sign language as a second language, which keeps alive the language acquisition part of their brain. We use our sign language to communicate in introductory paragraphs, songs, games, plays, conversations, and visits to the preschool to teach lessons. After learning about deaf culture, we have a panel of hearing impaired visitors who are willing to answer our questions about their culture and life.
Brain Bowl is 4th quarter for 7th grade where we prepare for Knowledge Bowl competitions online and against parents and teachers. We explore logic games and activities that allow us to stretch our craniums. Learners will use the KMO Knowledge Master Open disks of questions to prepare for meets and increase reading skills. We will also be viewing foreign films, reading English and FL subtitles on the screen to increase our reading rate and comprehension.
Students in these classes will also focus on reading biographies and finding personal heroes who have excelled, using their skills, talents, and disabilities to reach higher ground. Journal writing, creating, and exploring our learning through open communication will be required.
